Jade Fryza

Jade joined the Gardens Manitoba Board in February of 2024 as the Program Coordinator. What drew her to Gardens Manitoba was her love to support the passion of other’s and to enable people to collect knowledge and skills for their metaphorical tool belt.

Much of Jade’s gardening knowledge stems from time spent in her grandma’s red-soiled garden in Nova Scotia, which was always planted after the first full moon of June under her grandma’s watchful eye. She continues to be fascinated through foraging, plant identification, hiking, and by what grows seasonally and abundantly in Manitoba. She strongly believes in empowerment through nature and looks forward to passing this knowledge down to the young ones in her family.

In her spare time Jade enjoys crocheting, exploring and climbing trees, her family, bird watching, writing, and in her core, she wishes to spend more time in the theatre community.

Richard Martin

Richard joined the Gardens Manitoba Board in 2019 as a way of giving back to the community while putting his decades of eMarketing and eCommunications to good use.

Richard’s love of plants began early in life through his father, who always had house plants rooting and a garden growing. Those early years obviously had an effect – he ended up finishing University with a Botany/Zoology degree, and was in the middle of his Master’s degree in Botany when he had the realization that the digital world was calling.

Richard continues to keep a garden going as well as a number of indoor plants including a four foot tall, 50+ year-old orange tree that produces 10-30 full sized oranges each year and a Venus Flytrap named Sarlacc in honour of one of the best scenes in any Star Wars movie.
