Gardens Manitoba in Winnipeg is looking to fill the position of Treasurer to oversee and report on the organization’s finances. Gardens Manitoba is a volunteer organization that fund raises in the community and partners with individuals and organizations to promote horticultural interests and activities.

The Treasurer is a member of the executive committee and works with the President and Vice-President along with the remaining board members in a governance capacity. The Treasurer coordinates the preparation of the budget, regularly reviews the work completed by the bookkeeper and presents the financial status of the organization at monthly evening board meetings. The annual financial statements are prepared by a Chartered Professional Accountant on a review engagement basis and are presented by the Treasurer to the membership at the AGM.

The Treasurer is one of the signing officers of the organization. In this capacity, the Treasurer is required to review any contracts or other documents on behalf of the organization, approve the payment of expenses through PayPal, or by cheque, ensure event revenues recorded through the cash registers are properly accounted for and the funds received are deposited in our financial institution.

We are currently seeking an individual who is a Chartered Professional Accountant with previous board and /or executive experience that is looking for an opportunity in a non-profit environment. The time commitment would be about 4 hours per month. The start date is January 2018 or ASAP.
