Event Planner

We are looking for a successful and enthusiastic Event Planner to produce events from conception through to completion. Event Planner responsibilities include providing outstanding customer service and organizing memorable events that meet quality expectations.


  • Event planning, design, and production while managing all project delivery elements within time limits
  • Propose ideas to improve provided services and event quality
  • Organize facilities and manage all event details such as decor, catering, entertainment, transportation, location, equipment, etc.
  • Specify volunteer requirements and coordinate their activities
  • Cooperate with marketing to promote and publicize the event
  • Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on the event day
  • Conduct pre- and post – event evaluations and report to the board on outcomes
  • Research the market, identify event opportunities and generate interest 

Requirements and skills

  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Sales skills and ability to build productive business relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Previous event planning experience appreciated

Program Chair

The Programming Chair is responsible for researching and setting the program
topics for the organization’s educational component and attends monthly Board

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Plans the 9 program evenings and 1 volunteer/member Christmas event for Gardens Manitoba members and the general public
  • Researches what local horticultural groups are doing so that we can work in collaboration and avoid conflicting dates
  • Sources and books the program venue location
  • Organizes volunteers to assist with the program evening event set up and take down
  • Introduces the presenter at program evenings
  • Arranges for refreshments at program evenings
  • Creates a yearly program of events schedule

Greenhouse Project Coordinator

The Gardens Manitoba Board is seeking a new board member to fill the role of Greenhouse Project Coordinator.

This person will be responsible for:

  • Working and liaising with interested organizations to find a site in the Winnipeg Area for a Greenhouse Build
  • Determining the type of greenhouse to be built in consultation with the Greenhouse
  • Working closely with other Board Members in the areas of Grants, Fund Raising,
    Volunteer Recruitment, Marketing and Programming
  • Working with an Architect and Civil Engineer to ensure that the Greenhouse meets all applicable codes
  • Overseeing the build of the greenhouse
  • Ensuring that the greenhouse is built according to a strict budget
  • Attending Monthly Board meetings and providing summary reports

This position requires someone who is adaptable, personable, very organized, good at project management, has a working knowledge of different greenhouse style and has excellent computer skills. Experience working with Architects, Civil Engineers and City Planning officials would be beneficial.
